FAQ

Formerly Housing First, Inc., we are a nonprofit dedicated to ending homelessness along the Gulf Coast by providing housing resources, and support services.

HOPE does not provide emergency housing nor do we operate a shelter, but we can connect you to local shelters and help you find housing solutions.

The Coordinated Entry Department will help clients begin the process of identifying resources to prevent or end their housing crisis. The first step in this process is completion of the Coordinated Entry Pre-Screen Form. Once completed, a member of our team will reach out to discuss eligibility and schedule an intake appointment or provide community resources in cases of ineligibility.

The timeline for receiving housing varies and is not swift. Due to the high demand for housing assistance and limited resources, not all households will receive a referral for direct housing assistance. However, our case managers and program staff are dedicated to working with households to identify any available resources or supports to help resolve their housing crisis.

Individuals must meet HUD’s definition of homelessness, which entails “a person lacking a stable, regular, and sufficient nighttime residence.”
  • Living in a place not intended for human habitation, such as a car, park, abandoned building, or camping ground.
  • Living in a supervised shelter, such as a hotel or motel paid for by the government or charitable organizations.
  • Living in transitional housing.
  • Exiting an institution where they were previously residing in shelter or a place not meant for human habitation, if they were homeless immediately before entering the institution.

Category 1: Literally homeless. Individuals and families who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, which includes; place not meant for human habitation, living in a shelter or hotel, or exiting an institution.
Category 2: Individuals/families who will imminently (within 14 days) lose their primary nighttime residence.
Category 3: Homeless Under Other Federal Statutes. Unaccompanied youth (under 25 years of age) or families with children/youth who meet the homeless definition.
Category 4: Fleeing/attempting to flee domestic violence or any other dangerous or life-threatening situation.

Find Help

Get help with housing or other essential services and resources by completing and submitting the Coordinated Entry Pre-Screen form.

You can also drop your form off at our Downtown Office located at 279 N. Washington Avenue, Mobile, AL 36603 Building B. You will be contacted within 48 business hours to discuss program eligibility.
