Since 2014, Housing First, Inc., has provided a one day service fair for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Mobile and Baldwin Counties. Community work together to provide necessary services for the homeless, at no cost to them. The goal of the event is to provide participants with important services and goods necessary to improve their quality of life now, as well as access to all the tools necessary to rebuild what they have lost and to move forward in obtaining stable housing and achieving self-sufficiency.

Mobile Project Homeless Connect provide legal assistance, employment services, state identification card, social security administration, housing assistance, veteran resources, health and wellness, HIV/AIDS, dental and vision screenings, mental health services, DHR, food stamp applications, public housing authority, case management, academia, school services, GED assistance, beauty and barber, distribution center (clothing, coats, shoes, socks, backpacks, blankets, gloves, hygiene items, etc.) and mainstream services for the homeless.

Free transportation is provided to ensure those who have limited mobility, or who lack access to any means of transportation, are able to attend. Which means they are able to access much-needed services that could help them with their care and to reach the goal of independent living.

Mobile Project Homeless Connect has been able to build a community coalition of service providers that include South Alabama Volunteer Lawyers Program, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, University of South Alabama, Franklin Primary Health Care, AIDS AL, Mobile County Health Department, Lions Club, Department of Human Resources, Bishop State Community College, Mobile Public Housing Board. Sponsors over the years have been United Way of Southwest Alabama, The Grounds, PNC Bank, Sybil Smith Trust Fund, Exxon Mobile, Keith Palmer Toyota, Austal USA, SpireEnergy, Alabama Power Foundation, BancorpSouth, and Porch Bank Creek Indians.

By leveraging the power of numerous Mobile and Baldwin County non-profits, government agencies, volunteers and many more, Mobile Project Homeless Connect truly represents a community response to a community problem. Volunteers are the backbone of this annual event. Participation in the event offers a meaningful and enjoyable experience not only for the volunteers but also for the individuals and families who seek these much-need services.

Please consider helping us make the community aware of the January 31, 2020 homeless event.
