During the last week of January, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires that communities receiving federal funding for homeless programs conduct a count of the homeless staying in shelters annually. As the lead agency for the AL-501 Continuum of Care, Housing First leads this initiative in Mobile and Baldwin counties. Community volunteers and partner agencies canvas the area, interviewing those experiencing homelessness.
This annual count allows us to get a snapshot, of homelessness in Mobile and Baldwin counties at a single Point-in-Time, and helps to identify gaps in the local homeless assistance system. The data collected at this event is also used to inform funding requests and planning efforts to greater assist individuals, families, and youth experiencing homelessness.

For more information on the upcoming Point-in-Time count, please contact Leon Bell, Jr. at l.bell@hfal.org.
